Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading or using the VIA Transit app ("App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. Description of Service

VIA Transit provides a mobile fare collection platform for purchasing, storing, and validating transit tickets and passes for participating transit agencies. The App also provides real-time transit information, trip planning, and account management.

3. Account Registration

You may use certain features as a guest without creating an account. To access full features, including stored value wallets and purchase history, you must create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.

4. Ticket Purchases and Refunds

All ticket purchases are final and non-refundable unless the ticket was not delivered due to a technical error on our part. Activated tickets cannot be refunded.

Unactivated tickets may be eligible for refund within 30 days of purchase; contact your transit agency's customer service. Stored value wallet balances are non-refundable except as required by applicable law.

5. Ticket Validity and Fraud Prevention

Tickets are valid only for the fare product and time period specified. Attempting to use expired, transferred, or counterfeit tickets constitutes fare evasion and may result in account suspension and fines as permitted by applicable law.

Each ticket contains security features visible to agency inspectors. Do not alter, screenshot, or share active tickets.

6. Payment Terms

Payments are processed by Stripe. By making a purchase, you authorize us to charge your selected payment method. You represent that you are authorized to use the payment method provided.

Prices are set by the participating transit agency and may change without notice. All prices include applicable taxes unless otherwise noted.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Attempt to bypass fare validation systems
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or tamper with the App
  • Use automated tools to access the App
  • Share or sell tickets to third parties
  • Use the App for any unlawful purpose

8. Service Availability

We strive for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Tickets are stored on your device for offline use. In the event of a service outage, contact agency customer service for assistance.

9. Account Termination

You may delete your account at any time from Account → Delete Account. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. Upon termination, any unused stored value balance will be handled per your transit agency's refund policy.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, VIA Transit and its affiliates are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the App, including missed trips, service disruptions, or loss of stored value due to device failure.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, without regard to conflict of law principles.

12. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance. We will notify you of material changes via in-app notification.
